Sheriff: New Richland Police Chief Dead In Apparent Suicide

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The chief of police in New Richland was found dead Monday night in an apparent suicide, according to the Waseca County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Chief Scott Eads took his own life Monday night in rural Freeborn County. New Richland is located just south and west of Owatonna. Eads leaves behind a wife, Candace, and two young children.

The circumstances leading up to Eads' death are not known. According to its city web site, the New Richland Police Department consists of the chief, one full-time officer, one scheduled part-time officer and two non-scheduled part-time officers.

The Waseca County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to keep the Eads family in their thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
