NDSU President Calls For Review Of School Song Due To Derogatory Term

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani wants a review of the school song because he considers some words troubling.

The third verse of "The Yellow and the Green" has a lyric that includes a reference to "red man" — what some consider a derogatory term for an American Indian.

Bresciani wants the school to stop using all but the first verse of the song.

KVRR-TV reports that the song was written in 1907 by two faculty members.
