Nat'l TV Show Calls Smalley's Jerk Chicken The 'Best. Ever.'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Stillwater bar that had what WCCO viewers chose as Minnesota's best summer drink has just earned another honor -- this time, it's national.

A year and a half ago, viewers sent Matt Brickman to try the mojito at Smalley's Caribbean Barbeque and Pirate Bar. The bar claims they are made entirely from scratch, and who are we to argue with pirates?

Now, Smalley's was featured on the Food Network's new show "Best. Ever." The show is hosted by Ted Allen, formerly of "Chopped," "Food Detectives" and "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

The show cited Smalley's Caribbean Jerk Chicken dish as being the "Best. 'Reggae Worthy' Chicken Ever." According to the Food Network, in the episode chef Antonia Lofaso praises the authenticity of smoking whole chickens using Jamaican Pimento wood chips, and saucing it with three different options including Scotchies, which Lofaso said is a traditional sauce used by Jamaicans.

The episode aired for the first time Monday night, and will be rebroadcast Saturday, Jan. 17, Sunday, Jan. 18 and Friday, Jan. 23.

Smalley's has also been previously featured on Food Network's show "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives."
