National Guard Sends Help To Southern Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota National Guard is sending 20 soldiers to Henderson, Minn. to assist with flood response.

Henderson is among the towns in southern Minnesota that suffered damage due to torrential rains that plagued the state over the last week.

The soldiers will provide assistance by watching over flowage channels, levee watch and lift stations.

The city is currently in a state of emergency although no evacuations have taken place.

The soldiers are being sent to Henderson as part of an order from Dayton after local officials requested state assistance.

Additionally, Dayton plans to ask for national help for the state in the coming weeks by asking President Obama for Major Disaster Declaration.

The National Guard also sent 100 soldiers to Koochiching County on Thursday.
