Gymnast Nastia Liukin Previews Kellogg's Champions Tour

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Because of the Minnesota Lynx Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday afternoon, the Kellogg's Champions Tour has been moved 7 p.m. Saturday at Target Center.

Gold medalists such as Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas will take part.

It's a great event for the family and aspiring gymnasts. So we asked our junior reporter, 12-year old Mary Ryther, a gymnast from Farmington, to do a preview with 5-time Olympic medalist, Nastia Liukin.

"I did it in 2012 so I'm excited to be back on the tour," Liukin said. "We have 36 cities and it's a two-hour show. It's really about celebrating the success that USA Gymnastics had at the Olympic Games in Rio. It's a really fun show for us to be able to perform in front of thousands of people."

Mary Ryther asked Liukin what it's like to be competing at the Olympics from an athlete's point of view.

"Competing in the Olympics was definitely a dream come true. It's something I wanted to do ever since I was a young girl," Liukin said. "So to be able to compete at the Olympics and represent my country, it was a moment that I felt so much pride in representing my country and it created so many memories that will definitely last a lifetime."

So what's her advice for young gymnasts watching this weekend?

"I think it's important to set goals for yourself. Not just that long-term goal like going to the Olympics or getting a full-ride scholarship and competing for a university," Liukin said. "But also setting those daily, weekly and monthly goals so you'll feel like you're striving to achieve something on a day-to-day basis. It's something that my mom taught me when I was a young girl is that you can never quit on a bad day. That would be my advice to everybody."
