N.Y. Police Seek Answers In Burnsville Student's 1985 Murder

OVID, N.Y. (AP) -- State police are asking for help in solving the killing of a 20-year-old college student from Minnesota who was found stabbed to death in a central New York cornfield more than three decades ago.

Troopers say Kristin O'Connell, of Burnsville, Minnesota, left a party at a friend's home on the night of Aug. 14, 1985, in the Seneca County village of Ovid.

Witnesses say two men followed O'Connell as she walked along County Route 139. O'Connell also talked to someone in a vehicle that had stopped.

Her body was found two days later.

A summary of her case was released by state troopers on Tuesday. Police say they've investigated nearly 2,000 leads in the case, which remains open.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Troop E at 585-398-4100.
