Woman Dies After North Minneapolis Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A sunny spring day turned deadly at a north Minneapolis strip mall Friday afternoon.

Police say a man shot and killed a woman at about 3:15 p.m. in a parking lot on West Broadway Avenue near Lyndale Avenue North.

The argument inside of a business between the man and woman spilled outside, where the man shot the woman several times before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The woman was rushed to North Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

"Scary and freaky," said Bishop Richard Howell of Shiloh Temple. "On a Friday night where it's almost 70 degrees, we have a shooting like this, and we're sad about the whole situation. We're certainly praying for peace for this family, and comfort for all the family members and those that knew the victim."

Family members at the scene say the suspect and the victim had been in a relationship at one point.

This is the second deadly shooting in north Minneapolis in the past two days, and police say they will have extra patrols in the area throughout the weekend.

Police are interviewing witnesses, and ask for anyone with information about the suspect to send a text anonymously to 847411 (TIP411), or call the MPD Tip Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
