Music Fans Celebrate 'Record Store Day'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's a big day for those who collect vinyl. Thousands of record stores around the world are celebrating Record Store Day.

Started in 2007, the annual event is a way for businesses to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture of record stores.

One of those celebrating is the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis. Special vinyl, CD releases and other promotional products are offered exclusively on this day. The store also had live performances from local artists.

Electric Fetus Manager Bob Fuchs said the day was originally created to celebrate and preserve the LP, which he calls the "premium musical artifact."

"It's kind of turned into this whole music community celebration, pretty much a festival for the music community," Fuchs said.

Record Store Day is always celebrated on the third Saturday in April.

This year, every continent in the world, besides Antarctica, had a store taking part in the celebration.
