2 Expected To Plead Guilty In Murder Of 90-Year-Old Carver Co. Man

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two men accused of killing a 90-year-old farmer at his home in Carver County last year are expected to plead guilty in court Thursday.

Earl Olander had hired one of the men to paint his house in rural San Francisco township. Investigators say the painter identified Olander as an easy target because he lived alone and had money.

Arrests were made after a citizen found a savings bond inside a Bible at a vacated St. Paul apartment. Reinol Vergara had just moved out of that apartment.

Edson Benitez is also charged with beating and stealing from Olander's home. The men are expected to be sentenced Thursday morning.
