Multiple DWI Offender Leads Police On Chase Down I-35W

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police say a drunk driver lead officers on a lengthy chase down I-35W Sunday night.

At around 7:23 p.m., Minnesota State Patrol officers say they received a 911 call from concerned drivers about a truck hauling a trailer, swerving all over the busy Minneapolis highway. When they found the vehicle and tried to pull it over near the Johnson Street exit, the driver -- 40-year-old James McCready -- didn't comply.

Police say McCready continued south on the highway at speeds of 55 to 65 mph, at times slowing down to pull over before accelerating away.

The State Patrol says the vehicle continued south on the highway into Bloomington as Minneapolis Police and Bloomington Police patrol squads joined the pursuit. Officers attempted to PIT (pursuit intervention technique) the vehicle, but say it didn't work.

McCready finally came to a stop at his residence, where he was arrested. Police say his blood-alcohol content was 0.24 at booking.

Court records detail McCready's lengthy history of driving infractions. He's been convicted of 16 charges since 1994, including DUI, DWI, careless driving, and boating under the influence.
