Petition Calls For MSP Terminal 1 To Be Renamed After Prince

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- People are currently petitioning for Terminal 1 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to be renamed after Prince.

Following his untimely death at Paisley Park on Thursday morning, a petition was set up on Change.org to get Prince's name installed as the unofficial-official title of the terminal.

The terminal is still frequently referred to as the Lindbergh Terminal, after one-time Minnesota resident Charles Lindbergh.

"Our institutions should be named in honor the Minnesotans we're most proud of," the petition states. "As a globally recognized and admired musical hero, Prince Rogers Nelson would be a splendid choice to replace Charles Lindbergh as the namesake of our state's busiest airport terminal. Let's make it happen."

The petition was seeking 7,500 signatures and, as of noon Friday, had already surpassed 6,000 names.

WCCO has reached out to the Metropolitan Airports Commission for comment.
