MSP Airport Workers Vote To Strike For $15 Wage, Right To Unionize

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Workers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport voted overwhelmingly to strike Monday. They informed a meeting of the Metropolitan Airports Commission about their plan.

They're asking for $15 an hour and the right to form a union. The strike would involve about 600 people who work driving carts and cleaning the airplanes.

"We have to show them we are united," airport employee Abera Siyoun said. "Ninety-nine percent of the employees here are ready to strike, and it makes a lot of problems for the airport."

Workers say they want better work conditions and benefits so they don't have to fear losing their jobs. They say the strike could come 30 days from now.
