MSP Airport Expansion Delayed With Sun Country's Future Up In The Air

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Plans to expand Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are on hold as the Metropolitan Airports Commission waits to see what happens with Sun County Airlines.

The MAC voted Sunday to approve a one-month delay in expanding Terminal 2. That's so the group can figure out what's happening at Sun Country Airlines. The company is in a contract fight with its pilots.

Earlier this month, the airline's CEO warned the union of downsizing ahead of a shutdown. If Sun Country cuts flights, the terminal might not need new gates.

Officials with Sun Country Airlines said contract negotiations won't affect current customers. The pilots union says more talks could happen later this month. The airport expansion project was supposed to be finished next year.
