Mpls. Teen Pleads Guilty To Fatal Shooting At Drug Deal

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis teen pleaded guilty Tuesday to the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Eugene Watkins, also 19, made the plea right before his case was set to go to trial.

The criminal complaint says Watkins shot Jason Adams on the afternoon of May 6 during a drug deal at a south Minneapolis apartment.

Watkins and two other men went to the residence to buy marijuana from Adams, but then Watkins demanded the drugs at gunpoint.

Adams then pulled a gun, and both men fired at each other. Watkins was wounded in the exchange, and was arrested while hospitalized. Adams died later that day.

Watkins will be sentenced on March 7, when he is expected to receive 30 years in prison.
