Mpls. Teen Faces Felony Assault Charge For Principal Attack

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis student faces assault charges after allegedly attacking her school principal last month, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Lashawnte Simone Bright was charged Wednesday, which is her 18th birthday, in a juvenile petition with a count of third-degree felony assault and a count of fourth-degree gross misdemeanor assault on a school official.

The criminal complaint says Bright -- who was 17 at the time -- was asked to leave Harrison Education Center by Principal Monica Fabre on Dec. 7 because she had been suspended.

Fabre was escorting the student out of the school's cafeteria when Bright allegedly pulled the principal to the ground by her hair, and then punched her in the face multiple times.

The principal suffered head trauma and a concussion in the attack, and has been ordered by her doctor to stay at home.

Harrison Education Center is a school for students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
