Mpls. Teen Charged With Murder Of Man Defending His Son
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis teen is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing a man who confronted him on a Metro Transit bus for harassing his son.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office has filed a petition to certify Joshua Davis Ford, 16, as in adult for the shooting death of 38-year-old Andrew Billingsley Jr. last Thursday night.
Witnesses say Ford boarded a bus with his friends just before 7 p.m. at North 26th Avenue and Penn Avenue North. Billingsley, from Minneapolis, later confronted Ford and his friends for harassing his son on board, and Ford pulled a gun from his waistband.
The driver, who was related to Billingsley, triggered a silent emergency alarm to alert police.
According to the juvenile petition, Ford then told Billingsley to exit the bus before getting off himself, and then began to fire several rounds at the victim.
The driver performed CPR on Billingsley at the scene, but he was pronounced dead soon after emergency crews arrived.
Ford fled the scene, but was apprehended by Minneapolis Police the next day. Most of the incident was caught on bus surveillance cameras.
The suspect is being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. His next court appearance is Aug. 8.
