900+ Cars Impounded So Far In Mpls. Snow Emergency

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some car owners in the Twin Cities may not have learned how expensive a snow emergency can be.

The city of Minneapolis reports 919 vehicles have been tagged, towed and impounded in the first two days of the snow emergency that was declared following last weekend's snowfall.

With the towing charge and parking ticket cost, it will take more than $200 to pick up vehicles and drive them out of the Minneapolis impound lot.

This is the second snow emergency in the Twin Cities in as many weeks, and crews impounded 911 vehicles over a three-day period last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday is the third and final day of the current snow emergency in Minneapolis, and officials says they will have a final total for towed vehicles Tuesday.

Cars parked Monday on the odd-numbered side of streets that have not yet plowed will be towed at the owner's expense. The Minneapolis impound lot remains open until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

It costs about the same to retrieve tagged-and-towed cars at St. Paul's impound lot, which is also in the third day of its snow emergency.
