Mpls. Police: Bicyclist Injured In Light Rail Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police say a bicyclist was injured Thursday afternoon in an accident involving a Metro Transit light rail train.

The accident occurred at about 4 p.m. near 46th Street and Hiawatha Avenue in south Minneapolis. Police says a northbound Blue Line train collided with the biker.

A witness at the scene told WCCO they saw a middle-aged man on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance.

Police are investigating the circumstances which led up to the crash. The extent of the bicyclist's injuries are not known.

Metro Transit alerted Blue Line riders on Twitter that buses would replace trains between the Franklin Avenue and Fort Snelling stations. Rail service was fully restored by 5 p.m.
