Mpls. Park Police Apologize For Ticketing Politician

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis Park Police say they are launching an internal investigation after a gubernatorial candidate was ticketed and arrested at Lake Calhoun Thursday.

Christopher Holbrook, a Libertarian Party hopeful in the 2014 governor race, was attempting to get signatures for his political campaign early Thursday afternoon when police issued a citation and handcuffed him.

A video of the incident was posted on Facebook. (Warning: Link contains strong language.)

The department said that Holbrook was arrested for attempting to use the parks for financial gain. Upon review by Park Police Chief Jason Ohotto, it was determined that arresting officer Brian Woodfill was in error and had "misapplied the ordinance."

Ohotto said that he apologized personally to Holbrook on behalf of his department.

On Friday, Ohotto said that he was launching an internal affairs investigation because of the incident.
