Mpls. Officials: Rash Of Car Break-Ins With Important Documents Stolen

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis officials are warning vehicle owners after a notable uptick in vehicle break-ins that include loss of important documents.

A city crime analyst found that over the past 3-and-a-half weeks, thefts of this kind have been reported in the following neighborhoods: Whittier, Lowry Hill East, CARAG, Lyndale, East Harriet and Kingfield.

All of the burglaries are similar in that they include important documents, like vehicle or health insurance information, vehicle registration, receipts, and other materials.

"If you should find that your vehicle was rummaged through, or you had a theft from your motor vehicle, please double check that there have been no losses of documentation you might have had in your glove box or stored elsewhere in the vehicle," a statement from the city said.

Officials recommend not leaving valuables in your vehicle or placing them in the trunk before arriving at your location.
