Crews Battle Blaze After Mpls. Recycling Plant Explosion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Dozens of Minneapolis firefighters battled a blaze after an explosion at a metal recycling plant Friday in north Minneapolis.

The city's fire department says crews were called to Northern Metal Recycling on the 2800 block of Pacific Street North at about 1:40 p.m. after a localized explosion in a processing hopper.

The explosion caused a flash fire that went up the building's roof stack, setting part of the roof on fire.

Officials say the building was evacuated when crews arrived, and the fire was quickly put out. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
