Mpls. Dairy Queen Celebrates Anniversary With 1949 Prices

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- When a local ice cream shop celebrated its 65th anniversary on Saturday, it decided to throw a big party for its neighbors.

The Dairy Queen on Lowry Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis has been around for 65 years.

"We opened June 22nd, 1949," said owner Racheal Phillippi.

The shop celebrated by inviting neighborhood kids by to paint a mural on the building.

And back in 1949, cones were just 5 cents, so that's how much they sold their ice cream for.

The owners say they're one of the top five oldest Dairy Queens in the country.
