Mpls. Bridge Closed Due To Load-Limit Violations

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis bridge is temporarily closed to traffic due to violations of a recent load limit.

City officials say the 89-year-old St. Anthony Parkway Bridge in northeast Minneapolis was restricted to a three-ton load limit after recent inspections. But people have noticed larger vehicles still crossing the bridge, which triggered the closure.

The truss bridge carries about 4,200 vehicles a day on average over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yard, and is scheduled to be replaced next year. The new bridge is expected to be open to traffic in 2016.

The St. Anthony Parkway Bridge will remain closed to all vehicle, bike and pedestrian traffic until further notice.
