Mpls. Bike Cops Use New Truck To Connect With Community

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis Police Department is trying out something fun this summer.

The department's bike cops have a truck stocked with free ice cream, lemonade, bike helmets and water bottles. This summer, they plan to drive it around and give away the stuff while also fixing bikes.

Also, sometimes they will give away free bikes.

The cops can put up a basketball hoop on one side of the truck and a T.V. on the other side.

Police said it's another way they can connect with kids in the community.

This truck was made possible after donations from Minneapolis Attorney Mike Ciresi and Dean and Tyler Phillips with the Phillips Family Foundation.
