Move-In Day For New Students At The 'U'

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's move-in day at the University of Minnesota. Students new and old were flooding into the neighborhoods around the U of M on Tuesday.

In order for the transition to college life to go smoothly, parents need to understand the stress that their child is feeling, according to Susan Stubblefield with the U's office of housing and residential life.

And also, once the car is unloaded and the student gets settled, it's OK for moms and dads to head home.

Stubblefield said that there is also a guidebook app with two areas to help students and parents with move in.

"One is the Class of 2018. The other is the Housing and Residential Life Guide. Those are both available to anybody who downloads the free U of M Guidebook app," she said.

The app is available for Apple, Android and Blackberry devices. There is also more information at the Housing and Residential Life website.

Welcome Week festivities kick off on Wednesday. Classes begin at the U of M on September 2.
