Mother Charged In AMBER Alert Incident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The AMBER alert system did its job Thursday after authorities say a mother abducted her child.

Authorities issued the alert after they say Yusra Abumayaleh, 30, took her 15-month-old daughter from a Coon Rapids daycare on Wednesday. She's now facing one charge of deprivation of custodial rights.

The daycare did not know the mother had lost custody of her child. Then police learned that Abumayaleh had made statements to social workers about harming herself and other people.

The State Patrol found them on I-35W at Stinson Boulevard Thursday night. A citizen called police after seeing the Amber Alert.

If convicted, Abumayaleh will face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $4,000.
