Moorhead-Based American Crystal Sugar Co. Names New President

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — American Crystal Sugar Co. has a new president.

The company's board of directors has elected Tom Astrup to the helm of the cooperative that's based in Moorhead, Minnesota. He will also take over as CEO for David Berg when Berg retires in August.

The 47-year-old Astrup has worked for the company for 22 years and has been vice president of operations since 2014. He previously held three other executive positions.

Astrup is a 1991 graduate of the University of North Dakota, where he received an accounting degree.

American Crystal Sugar is owned by about 2,800 sugar beet growers in the Red River Valley. The company has two North Dakota factories, in Drayton and Hillsboro, and three Minnesota plants, in Crookston, East Grand Forks and Moorhead.
