Deputy shoots armed man outside Montrose's Dollar General amid warrant arrest, sheriff says
MONTROSE, Minn. — A man is hospitalized after being shot by a Wright County deputy outside the Dollar General store in Montrose on Monday afternoon.
The deputies were called at about 1 p.m. to the store off Highway 12/Nelson Boulevard "to attempt apprehension of an adult male for (an) outstanding arrest warrant," according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities say deputies encountered the armed man outside the store. He resisted arrest, with deputies first using "less than lethal measures" before one of the deputies shot him, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies gave the man medical aid before he was taken to the hospital. His condition hasn't been released.
"I pulled into my driveway and before I could get out of the vehicle I heard the gunfire," Dora Garza Salazar Rolfzen said.
She said she left the store right before the incident happened.
"I could have been in the store when he was in the store," she said.

Neighbors tell WCCO that the Dollar General is a lifeline for the community, being one of the few stores around. Many people visit the store several times a week if not daily, and this was the last thing they expected to see.
"I didn't go today. Thank God I didn't go today," Brandon Rogers said.
Rogers lives right behind Dollar General. He said he was sleeping until the gunshots woke him up.
"It's intense when it happens close to where you live," Rogers said.
Authorities haven't named the man who was shot but neighbors tell WCCO he lives near the Dollar General.
Deputies were seen at the house after the shooting. Court records show the man who lives there has a history of threatening law enforcement, including during an armed standoff with deputies in late March. During that incident, he reportedly said, 'Deputies needed to leave or Defendant would execute his Second Amendment rights.'
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation. Montrose is about 35 miles west of Minneapolis.
