MNsure Extends Enrollment Deadline For Jan. 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Officials have extended the deadline for enrolling in Minnesota's health insurance exchange for coverage starting Jan. 1.

Minnesotans now have until Dec. 28 to enroll through MNsure and have their plan take effect at the start of the new year. The announcement was made Saturday.

The change comes as some health insurance companies expressed interest in offering plans through the end of the month. Officials say the deadline extension is not in response to any system issues or technical problems.

Even with the deadline extension, MNsure is urging Minnesotans not to wait until the last minute. MNsure CEO Allison O'Toole says waiting to enroll could mean you won't have your ID card or other plan information on Jan. 1.

To meet demand, MNsure will increase customer service resources at its contact center.
