MnDOT: Hwy. 36 Ramps To St. Croix Bridge Close To Completion

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Progress continues to be made on the St. Croix Crossing Bridge project.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, crews anticipate finishing segment placing on the Highway 36 eastbound and westbound ramp bridges sometime next week.

The St. Croix Crossing Bridge will connect Minnesota to Wisconsin using Highway 36 in Stillwater. Crews broke ground on the St. Croix Crossing Bridge project in 2013.  Segment placing on the Hwy. 36 ramp bridges began in April 2015.

In all, 330 segments make up the driving surface of the ramp bridges. Each segment weighs 180 tons and is lifted one-at-a-time and placed onto the high-tension cables.

The whole project, which is set to cost more than $600 million, is expected to be completed in fall of 2017.
