MN Trucker Sought In Death Of Alaska Man In Montana

LIVINGSTON, Mont. (AP) -- A trucker suspected in the hit-and-run death of a man on Interstate 90 in south-central Montana has been arrested.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff Don Tonrud says 45-year-old David Welk of St. Cloud was arrested Thursday night just outside of Grundy Center, Iowa. He appeared in court Friday morning and waived extradition to Montana.

Tonrud says the Montana Highway Patrol will transport Welk back to Montana.

Prosecutors believe Welk was driving a semi-trailer on Interstate 90 near Big Timber early on Sept. 30 when the truck hit and killed 81-year-old Elgie Bedford of Wasilla, Alaska. Welk became a suspect after his driving partner called the Montana Highway Patrol.
