MN RollerGirls' 'Vortex' At Roy Wilkins This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's one of the most popular underground contact sports in the metro, which requires its participants to have thick skin and steel bones.

This weekend, you can check out the local roller derby action for yourself. The Minnesota RollerGirls "Roller Vortex" is this Saturday, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

WCCO This Morning's Edward Moody strapped on skates, a helmet and plenty of padding as he attempted to join the RollerGirls in a scrimmage drill. He begged off displaying how to perform an apex jump, though.

You can see the results of his efforts in the videos above and below.

The proceeds from this weekend's bout go to the Animal Humane Society. You can buy tickets in advance for $13, or at the door for $15.
