Missing Minnesota Family Found Safe In Kansas

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A father, four of his children -- two of whom are juveniles -- and their three dogs who went missing last week have been found in Kansas, according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office.

Peter John Kunze, 44, failed to appear in court for a custody hearing on Friday, Sept. 12 with two of his children -- a 16-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.

The Pine County Sheriff said the family was found in Kansas after being stopped by police for a headlight that was out on their SUV.

The kids are now in protective custody. Officials are working to bring them back to Minnesota.

The adult children and the missing dogs were also located in the vehicle. The sheriff said the younger children just thought they were going on a vacation.

Kunze will be brought back to Minnesota to face possible charges of deprivation of custodial rights.
