Minnesota's Greatest Oscar Hits Include Lange, Coens

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- We might be thousands of miles away from Hollywood, but Minnesota does have its fair share of Oscar winners.

The list includes Judy Garland, who won a special juvenile Oscar for her performance in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz," and Jessica Lange, who has two Oscars to her name -- best supporting actress in 1982's "Tootsie" and best actress in 1994's "Blue Sky."

St. Cloud native Gig Young was nominated three times before winning best supporting actor for his role in the 1969 drama "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"

Outside of acting categories, Prince won an Oscar for his song score from the 1984 movie "Purple Rain." Another Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Bob Dylan, won the Oscar for his song "Things Have Changed" from the 2000 movie "Wonder Boys."

Among the most Oscar-honored Minnesotans: Ethan and Joel Coen, whose films "Fargo" and "No Country for Old Men" earned them multiple trophies.
