Minnesota's Effort To Reign In Overuse Of Antibiotics

The overuse of antibiotics is leading to the development of new strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The CDC estimates 23,000 deaths and 2 million illnesses are caused by strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria each year.

But its not just overuse in humans that is making us sick, overuse in livestock animals that we eat is also part of the problems.

So, officials in Minnesota started the One Health Antibiotic Stewardship.

The Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Ed Ehlinger spoke with Esme Murphy about the initiative on WCCO Sunday Morning.
