Minnesotans Of All Ages Enjoy The Sudden Snow

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The sounds of children celebrating the early arrival of a snow day were loud and clear in Elk River Monday.

Best friends Kaila Swart and Lexi Patraw were having the time of their lives.

"It's really fun because I get to play with my best friend and do face plants in the snow," Swart said.

For them, it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I thought it was really cool because I haven't seen snow in a really long time," Patraw said.

And what's not to like? You can slide on it, surf on it, make balls with it for a friendly fight and even build with it.

The slippery conditions that come with the snow can quickly dampen your spirits, especially if you are behind the wheel. But if you don't have to leave the house, like Jim Wacek and his wife from Rogers, it's not so bad.

"We are happy because we're both retired, and we're out here by choice," Wacek said. "We don't have to go to work (laughs)."

A trip to the grocery store is the only thing that Jim and his wife really had to do Monday.

"We have a fairly expansive view to the west from our house, so we sit out there and enjoy the snow," he said.

They say cold weather and hot food go together, which is why they're cooking Monday night.

Because they have no place to go, the Waceks say let it snow!
