Minnesotans Enjoying Above-Average Temps Outdoors

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- No matter where you went today, wasn't hard to find people outside -- things were unseasonably warm across the state, with temperatures hovering in the low 40s.

For many, the unusual heat wave called for a cold treat in Minneapolis' LynLake neighborhood. Milkjam Creamery's opening weekend couldn't have been more perfectly timed.

"Since day one we've had really good reception," said Sameh Wadi, the shop's owner. "Even 30 below zero people were coming. I had about 200 people when it was freezing cold."

WIth unique flavors like "Poppin Bottles," and "Indian Elvis" -- a curried peanut butter ice cream -- the shop had customers in winter coats lined up out the door.

"We're just trying to have some fun," Wadi said. "It's ice cream!"

And after your ice cream, why not a little ice time?

The annual U.S. Pond Hockey Championships on Lake Nokomis will draw thousands of spectators. Organizers expect the warm temperatures to bring record crowds.
