Minnesota Tourist Drowns While Swimming In Gulf Of Mexico

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 44-year-old Minnesota man apparently drowned while swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.

Ian Johnson was pulled from the water off of Destin on Thursday afternoon.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's officials say Johnson became distressed while swimming with one of his children behind the Pelican Beach Resort.

He was unconscious when pulled from the water and was later pronounced dead at a hospital in nearby Fort Walton Beach.
