Minnesota Surgeon Sentenced For Assaulting Boy

PARK RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota surgeon has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison for choking his 10-year-old foster son by forcing a latex glove down the boy's throat.

Fifty-one-year-old Dennis Sullivan Jr. of Benedict pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in Hubbard County court.

Sullivan was arrested in June after his wife interrupted the assault. She told investigators she went into the boy's room when she heard a strange sound and saw Sullivan pushing his gloved fist down the boy's throat.

She says he removed the glove and put it in his pocket. She asked Sullivan what he was doing and said he "did not know."

Sullivan drove to a mental health center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he was arrested.
