Southwestern Minnesota Solar Power Project Gets Approval

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A controversial solar energy project in southwest Minnesota has gotten the go-ahead.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission unanimously approved a 500-acre solar farm near Marshall.

Several families oppose the project saying it will ruin their rural lifestyle, but it's expected to produce enough electricity to supply the equivalent of 15,000 homes.

Xcel Energy will buy and distribute the power from the solar farm.
