Road conditions across Minnesota slowly improving after weekend snowstorm
Though the snowstorm that lashed Minnesota on Sunday has wrapped up, road conditions were still challenging on Monday.
A NEXT Drive Alert and no-travel advisory that were in place during the morning commute have since been lifted. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, most Twin Cities roads are normal or partially covered.
Interstate 35 southbound between the Iowa border and Albert Lea had been closed, but reopened around 1 p.m. Monday, MnDOT said.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, between 12 a.m. Sunday and 8 p.m. Monday, there were more than 600 crashes on state roads. Someone was injured in 60 crashes. In addition, hundreds of vehicles left the roadway and dozens spun out.
Temperatures will drop to around 3 degrees by Tuesday morning. A band of light snow is possible starting during the morning commute and lasting until lunchtime. Most of the snow will fall north of the metro, though parts of the Twin Cities could see up to a half-inch.
Tuesday afternoon will be mild with a high near 30 degrees, which is above average.
Another round of light snow could impact Wednesday morning's commute. Parts of the state could see up to an inch of accumulation.
The new year will start on a cold note. Temperatures on Thursday will be just below zero degrees in the morning, with the high reaching around 13 degrees.
The weekend will be warmer, with 30-degree temperatures possible on Sunday.
