Minnesota Resident Accused In 2005 Homicide Case In Arizona

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a Minnesota man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Arizona a decade ago.

Mesa police announced Wednesday that 46-year-old Steven Scott Wightman is being held in Minnesota's Scott County Jail awaiting extradition to Arizona.

They say a DNA profile recently linked Wightman to the homicide case and he was arrested Sept. 30 in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.

Police say 52-year-old David Reed was fatally shot in the parking lot of a bar on Oct. 16, 2005.

They say Reed had been seen hanging out with Wightman at the bar that night, but there was no indication that there was any confrontation between the men.

Mesa police say DNA recently was obtained from Wightman and matched a DNA profile from some evidence at the shooting scene.
