Minnesota Named Top State For Women

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new survey on the best environments for women in the United States listed Minnesota as the top overall spot.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes beat out several states in the northeast, including Massachusetts, Vermont and Maryland. Wisconsin was listed as 10th.

The survey, entitled "2015's Best and Worst States for Women," was conducted by WalletHub in time for Women's History Month. It sought to find the best social, economic and health environments for women out of all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

While Minnesota didn't exactly rank first in the website's categories of "Economic & Social Well-Being" or "Health Care," the state's high score in both helped it earn the top title.

The website also said that Minnesota ranked among the best states in terms of women's life expectancy, women being insured, and the percentage of women who vote.

It also helped that Minnesota placed highly in recent analyses of the best states for working moms and women's equality. Those reports were used as part of the metric for the "Best States" report.

The worst states on list are all in the south. Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas round out the bottom.
