Minnesota Lynx Meet With Obama At White House (Again)
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx made a return visit to the White House.
President Barack Obama will honored the 2015 champs in the East Room Monday afternoon. The Lynx captured their third championship in five seasons last October.
The team has met with Obama twice before — in 2012 and 2014.
The Lynx are 13-2 this season after winning a WNBA-record 13 straight to start the season. Despite the strong start, the team lost the following two in a row -- first to the Los Angeles Sparks, then to the Washington Mystics Sunday afternoon.
The President referenced Maya Moore, among others, in his speech.
"As Maya says, 'We're not super rich, like the guys, but money's not everything when you're talking about dynasties and legacies, and inspiring young women and men, and opening people's minds,'" Obama said. "Although, money's useful, too, and I am for equal pay for equal work."
The president also took a moment to recognize the contributions the late Flip Saunders made to basketball in general, and particularly to the state of Minnesota.
