Minnesota Jewish Community Gathers At State Capitol In Remembrance Of Holocaust

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Members of the local Jewish community gathered today to mark an important day of remembrance.

Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was Thursday, honored the more than 6 million Jews and others killed throughout Europe during World War II.

Survivors and their families lit candles outside the State Capitol Sunday, and shared stories of that gruesome period.

"The most important thing is that we are Jewish," survivor Judith Meisel said at the ceremony. "And to not give up to be Jewish, to me, is the most important thing."

At least 57 other cities across the US hosted a March of Remembrance this week.

A recent poll estimates 189,000 Holocaust survivors are still alive today.
