Minnesota Company Closing Grinnell, Iowa, Plant

GRINNELL, Iowa (AP) — A Minnesota company will close a Grinnell manufacturing plant, putting about 75 people out of work.

Bloomington-based Donaldson Company announced Wednesday it would close the plant, which produces mufflers and other exhaust products for off-road equipment. The plant has been in operation since 1952.

Company chief executive officer Bill Cook says the decision to close the plant was made because of diesel emission regulations that have prompted customers to shift from mufflers to other emission control systems. That shift has reduced demand for mufflers.

The company says employment levels will drop as work is moved to other Donaldson plants.
