Minnesota Businesses Banking On Nice Summer Weather

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Another gorgeous day is winding down.

The mild summer we're having is bringing more than just comfort to Minnesotans. For some people, sunshine pays.

It's the perfect kayak weather, and that's only the beginning. This almost ideal summer has meant an increase in sales at Midwest Montaineering in clothing, camping equipment and footwear, and this business is far from alone.

It's the kind of day that even if you weren't out on the boat, you kind of wish you were.

"Amazing. Low dew point, low humidity. Sunny and warm and no bugs," Sam Pearson said.

So Sam Pearson and his crew are all aboard. A sight that makes the marina wonder quite content.

"This year weather-wise is better than the past year and the attitude of boaters are substantially upbeat," Peterson said.

Which he says is what keeps the boating business above water.

"Instead of people using their boat twice a year and giving up boating, now they are justifying owning them after weather like this," Pearson said.

He says water levels have also been ideal on Minnetonka, keeping the lake full of boaters.

"This is absolutely beautiful, perfect, my kind of weather," Karen Doehling said.

Back on dry land, farmer and gardener Karen Doehling says the weather's not just to her enjoyment, it's to the benefit of her roadside business.

"We get a rainy day, we don't do much business. Especially for us since everything is outdoors It's just been, it's been a good year, it's been a real good year," Doehling said.

She says that's the case from the ground up.

"We've had good crop growing weather too, we've had just the right amount of rain when we needed it," Doehling said.

It's resulting in some healthy businesses and happy people.
