Minnesota 2014 Fish And Game Licenses Expire Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota authorities remind anglers that their 2014 fish, game and trapping licenses expire Saturday.

While some hunting and fishing seasons continue past Saturday, the Department of Natural Resources says new licenses are required.

While many lakes remain frozen, the DNR says that doesn't guarantee the ice is safe. The agency recommends contacting a bait shop to check on local ice conditions before venturing out.

All 2015 fishing licenses become effective Sunday, but ice shelter permits for 2014 remain effective through April 30.

The DNR also says the spring hunt on light geese opens Sunday and runs through April 30. Light geese are snow geese, blue-phased snow geese and the smaller Ross's goose. Harvest of light geese in Minnesota varies from a few hundred to several thousand birds each spring.
