Minnehaha Creek Reaching Major Flood Stage
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One of the most popular creeks in the Twin Cities is at a major risk for flooding after heavy rain Saturday with more expected Sunday.
The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities said Minnehaha Creek is at 16.88 feet, which is the highest it's been since 2011, when it was at 16.74 feet in the middle of July. Officials with Hennepin County Emergency Management are encouraging kayakers and canoeists to stay off the water as the creek is moving very fast.
Officials said the creek was already high after previous storms this spring and expected to get higher after Saturday's storms and more rain expected Sunday.
Residents along the creek in St. Louis Park and Edina have been advised to be prepared for localized flooding.
The Twin Cities is under a Flash Flood Warning Sunday.
