Minneapolis, St. Paul Public Schools Cancel Classes Amid April Snowstorm

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools cancelled classes Thursday as a potentially historic April snowstorm continues to swirl over Minnesota.

Other districts in the metro – such as Anoka-Hennepin, Osseo Area Schools, Edina Public Schools, and Wayzata Public Schools – have also called off classes.

While the heaviest snow has likely stopped falling in the metro, strong winds are blowing snow, greatly reducing visibility. Additionally, roads are caked with snow, and travel is not advised in some areas of southern Minnesota.

Meteorologist Matt Brickman say that as temperatures rise Thursday the storm system will drop sleet and freezing rain on southern Minnesota.
